We hope this update finds you well, and are certain you are anxious to hear about our plans and recent updates regarding the 22nd annual USA Memory Championship. We have been hard at work trying to troubleshoot a solution for a virtual competition of sorts for this year. Circumstances being what they are, the decision was made by our organization, our sponsor Lumosity and our host M.I.T. to postpone our in person Championship events until 2021. We are diligently working on finalizing details for the 2021 Qualifying and Championship events and will update soon.
Over the years many of you have expressed an interest in being both participants and audience members for our events, even asking if virtual or on-line competitions would be on the horizon. Through our collaborative efforts, we are planning to host the inaugural MIT-Lumosity Virtual USA Memory Championship on Nov 14, 2020!!!
This event is an competition that is intended to bring Mental Athletes together and showcase the limitless possibilities of their minds. Participants will be taking part in four events that are an integration of both new Lumosity games and fan-favorite USA Memory Championship events. At the end of these events, we will “crown” the first Virtual USA Memory Champion 2020. In addition to our competition events, we will have distinguished guest speakers discussing both the sport and science of mnemonics.
We are looking for anyone that is interested in showcasing their memory skills, competing against fellow Mental Athletes of all ages, and most importantly, having fun! Our event is open to all legal US residents ages 10 and older and there is no fee to enter. Please note all participants MUST have a laptop or desktop computer to compete (format will not be compatible with mobile devices) as well as online capabilities. Please be sure your bandwidth is compatible with Zoom. Registration is now open and closes on October 31, 2020. Please visit our REGISTER page for more information.
As for our live event, we plan to resume in-person operations and competition sometime during 2021. We anticipate our qualifying event to be sometime during the spring, and our final event will be during the fall at MIT. We look forward to seeing you all in person once again, and hope that you are all staying safe during these uncertain times.
