Double Deck O’Cards

The remaining three Mental Athletes (MAs) will compete in the final event: 5 minutes to memorize 2 decks of 52 playing cards. All MAs will have identical decks of cards, previously arranged in the same exact order. The decks of cards will not be mixed and will have different colored backs to distinguish them.   The order of memorization AND recall (top to bottom or vice versa) will be determined PRIOR TO MEMORIZATION beginning.

Once the memorization period is over, the MAs will have a 2 minute hiatus prior to beginning recall. MAs will be randomly ordered prior to the beginning of the recall period. Each MA will be allowed no more than 15 seconds to answer. After the MA calls the card, the Judge will flip the card in the master deck to determine if the MA is correct. The first 2 MAs to make a mistake are eliminated. The remaining MA is crowned as the USA Memory Champion.

***   In the event that there is a TWO WAY TIE in Double Deck O’Cards, the following tie breaker will be used:

Two decks of cards will be shuffled TOGETHER. Identically arranged decks will be placed before each MA.   The order of memorization AND recall will be TOP CARD DOWN (first card when the deck is placed faced down on the table).  Card backs will be the same color.  MAs will have 3 minutes to memorize as many cards as they can.   Once the memorization period is over the MAs will have a 1 minute hiatus prior to beginning recall.  MAs will be randomly ordered prior to the beginning of the recall period.  Each MA will be allowed no more than 15 seconds to answer.   After the MA calls the card, the Judge will flip the card in the master deck to determine if the MA is correct.  The first MA to make a mistake is eliminated.  The remaining MA MUST respond with the correct card to be crowned as the sole USA Memory Champion.  In the event that both or no MAs are eliminated during this event, two MAs will be crowned as Co-Champions.

***   In the event that there are THREE OR MORE MAs TIED in Double Deck O’Cards, the following tie breaker will be used.

Two decks of cards will be shuffled TOGETHER. Identically arranged decks will be placed before each MA.   The order of memorization AND recall WILL BE TOP DOWN (first card when the deck is placed faced down on the table) .  Card backs will be the same color.  MAs will have 30 seconds to memorize as many cards as they can. An incorrect response or no response will eliminate the MA, providing that a surviving MA can respond with the correct card. The last surviving MA who correctly recalled the card will be crowned USA Memory Champion.  In the unlikely event that 2 or more MAs remain at the end of this tie-breaker competition, they will be crowned as Co-Champions.
